I'll be using these smaller black walnut pieces for the handles. Here I'm cutting some
them in half, one for each side.

I wanted to shape one end of the handles so I'm using my
milling machine for this. By using a flycutter I was able to create a
nice large radius on one end. The metal piece behind the wood is for
stability.

The end with the radius will go towards the business end of the spatula.

Here I'm gluing on the handles.

Things moved during the gluing operation but that's no big deal. Now
it's time to clean up this area.

I used my tablesaw and sled to cut the ends square.

I sanded the handles freehand but didn't like the results so I decided
to true them up with my milling machine. This wasn't necessary but I had
time so why not.

Here is what it looks like after cleaning up both sides. Now it's time
to address the step from my end mill.

A few seconds on the spindle sander and that step was gone (bottom
piece).

I used a 3/16" roundover bit on my router table to soften the edges of
the handle.

My spindle sander has this belt-sanding attachment along with an
adjustable table so I set it at 45 degrees to create a knife edge.
