With 4500 people on board, the mess hall never stopped. There were
approximately 225 cooks and they served 10 tons of food per day, 13,500
meals a day, 10,500 cups of coffee at a time, 4,500 pounds of beef per
meal when served, 3,000 pounds of potatoes per day, 1,000 loaves of
bread a day, 20,000 pounds of dry provisions and 500 pies when served. The Midway also had it's own
butcher shop, 2 bakeries, 1 vegetable prep room, 15 storerooms, 5
freezers and 4 chill boxes.

The ships capacity for consumable goods were - 1,500,300 pounds of dry
provisions, 205,000 pounds of vegetables, 240,000 pounds of meat, 66,300
pounds of dairy, 16,000 pounds of coffee. Daily cost of feeding the crew in
1976 was $10,000.
