The 21st. annual Wings and Fins Aircraft and Car Show was held on April
6, at Riverside Municipal Airport in Riverside, CA. The show was put on
by Classic Chevy's of Riverside and I look forward this show every year. This is
the only show I go to that has aircraft and hot rods which is a great
combo for me because I like them both. The show hours ran from 9am to
4pm but there was a pancake breakfast starting at 7am for those that
arrived early. Larry and I rolled in at about 7 that morning and after getting
the car wiped off and registered, it was time for me to check out some
aircraft while Larry, his son and grandson had some breakfast. This
presents a perfect opportunity for me to check out everything without
the crowd being in the way which I've been doing since I've been going to this
show.
With over 90,000 people attending this show last year, it can get
pretty
crowded (at least for me) to walk around and see things so this is why I
like being their early. This show has vintage aircraft, military
aircraft and vehicles, a carnival, lots of food and souvenir venders, R/C
model demos, emergency preparedness along with a police helicopter
chasing a bad guy demo and sky divers.
This time of year the weather is a crap-shoot and when I left the
house that morning, it was foggy with lots of cloud cover. Most of that
cleared by 10 or so and they could finally start the show. And because
of all the cloud cover, some of the scheduled aircraft wasn't able to
make it that day. That must have been the reason for the cars too because
they didn't have as good a turnout as past years either. On the other
hand, about 250 did make the show so let's check out some of the
aircraft and hot rods.
