33 Coupe Transmission 3        8/22/03

This is the old way of telling the computer where the throttle is. Now don't get my wrong, this is how GM still does it which is a good way but adds an extra cable. I think the Acculink way is a better system myself because it's smaller overall. I'm going to have enough things mounted under the dash later on and if I can eliminate something, I will.

This is the computer that drives the transmission. The overall size is 3" X 4" X 5" and it has what looks like a parallel port along with a serial port. The main wiring harness plugs into both of these.

On the other side there is some adjusting screws along with a phone jack. Now what is a phone jack doing on here? This is the coolest part about the whole system.

This is what plugs into the phone jack. This little box called the Display/Programmer has the power to program the computer right from the seat of your car. After a few button pushes, then save and exit, your ready for a different acting transmission. Here are some of the things you can monitor with the display/programmer. System Status and Diagnostics - Vehicle Speed - Engine Speed - Current Gear - Throttle Position - Relative Hydraulic Pressure - Transmission Temperature - System Voltage - Dynamometer - Accelerometer - Stopwatch with Lap Times - Data Log. To see more on what this can do, check out the specifications page on Bowties web page which can do a better job of explaining things.

Some of the remote adjustments (pushing some of the buttons) that can be made are "Shift Pressure" and "Shift Speed". Lets say you wanted to have a smooth shifting car while your cruising around town but wanted a firmer shift when you wanted to play. No problem with this unit. It all works on percentages. What I mean is the amount of throttle percentage (position) that your at. To get the above conditions, you would program it to have smooth shifts up to...say...30% throttle and after that, have it shift hard. Now that's just one example of "Shift Pressure" but you get the idea. It's like having a "Shift-Kit" installed without the kit. Besides, a shift-kit shifts the same ALL the time (weather it's soft, firm or hard, that's what you get). "Shift Speed" is when you want the transmission to change gears at a certain RPM. Just program the unit to any RPM that you want at "Wide Open Throttle" (WOT) and it will shift there ALL DAY with out your worrying about over-revving your engine. I'll probably set it to an RPM of 6000 to start off with and go from there. I will want my transmission to shift at a lower RPM when I'm cruising so I would again pick a throttle position of...oh....30% and have it shift gears at 2800 RPM which would work with the above "Shift Pressure". With this combination, I would have easy shifting while cruising (like a Cadillac) and when I have my foot in it, then the hot rod mode would kick in. Almost like having your cake and eat'n it too....TO SWEET!
