One of my favorite places to be is in
the mountains, and this last show that Larry and I attended was held in Oak
Glen, Ca. which is located in a remote part of the San Bernardino
National Forest. To give you a little history about this place, Oak Glen
is known for their world famous apples (the elevation is above 4000
feet) and their are many orchards in and around this small community.
Apple season runs from Labor Day through Thanksgiving, just in case
you're wondering. Another nice thing
about Oak Glen is that it doesn't get as hot up their. That's a good
thing because in the middle of August, the temps can be down
right brutal where we would normally have a show at.
The show was held at a place called The Oaktree Village's on Aug. 18th from 10 to
4pm. The Oaktree Village is loaded with a bunch of small business's that
have a little bit of everything for sale. The ones that I like are the
places that have the smell of fresh food coming from them. And before we
left, Larry bought himself a fresh baked five pound apple pie to take
home.
We arrived an hour early only to find that a bunch of cars were
already their. Once we found a spot to park, it was time to walk around
and take in the cool air, which only lasted for a short time. Once it
was around 11 or so, it was in the high 90's.
Their's about 14 acres of family fun to be had at Oaktree Village
like pony rides, train rides, water slide, artisans and crafters, zoo,
jumper for the kids (all of which is a weekly deal), raffle, 50/50
drawing, live entertainment, vendors, 50's style sock hop, country style
BBQ and a place called Apple Annie's restaurant and bakery. This bakery
is where Larry bought his huge apple pie from and from what he said, it
was very good.
As you can see, the view at this show is one of the better that you
can have. With the mountains in the background and all the cars
surrounded by trees, this makes for a really nice place to relax for the
day.
