Working With Wood Continued
For the other project I'll be making 12 candle holders, and
there will be three different sizes. What you see below are scrap pieces I've sitting around for years
which, which Tracey wanted me to use. And my scrap pile seems to get larger after
each project that I do.
The spices of wood varies: maple, sapele, black walnut,
oak, poplar, mahogany and cherry.

I didn't have enough scrap pieces so I'll
be using some other wood that I keep on hand for projects.
Like I said earlier, I'll be making three sizes: six inch square, five
inch square and four inch square. The one below is for the larger ones.
Here I'm cutting my pieces to size. This process goes fast once
everything is setup.
I'm using my crosscut sled to square all my pieces.
These are the vertical pieces that will join the top and bottom square
pieces together. These have all been through my tablesaw and are 3/4"
square.
I made sure all the sharp edges were removed using 150 grit on my
sanding block.
Here I'm cutting my pieces to size, which will be three different
lengths.
Small, medium and large pieces. There are many more of each size that
are not pictured, but you
get the idea.
Here I'm cutting the legs for each candle holder.
I started with my miter saw but those small pieces were getting damaged
as I cut them so I switched over to my table saw. I'm using my 1" X 2" X
3" block as my work-stop (arrow). Also notice the magnetic chip guard.
Some of those small pieces were coming back and hitting me and getting
damaged as well. This chip guard worked out great, the pieces weren't
damaged and I stayed safe too.
