33 Coupe Having Fun 25       4/06/10

On March 27th, the 18th "Wings and Fins" air show car show was held at the Riverside Airport. The show ran from 9 am to 4 pm but we arrived before seven that morning to get a good spot. This show usually brings in a lot of cars and this year was no exception with over two hundred vehicles their.

I really like this show because it seems to have something for everyone. With all the different aircraft, vendors, radio controlled aircraft, skydivers, food, displays and flybys, this place puts on a great show.

The weather that morning while leaving town was very windy and cold, but once we arrived it was nice and calm. Larry and I looked at each other in disbelief because the weather was so different just 35 miles away. But that ended up being short lived because in an hour or so, the wind started up (like we dragged it with us on our way over) and blew all day. It was so bad that most of the air show was canceled and only a few planes were able to fly that day. I heard the announcer say that it was blowing over 25 mph and if it decreased a little, they could start flying but it didn't happen.

As the day went on the wind kept blowing and when it was time for lunch around 11 that morning, I couldn't wait to try one of Larry's sandwiches that he brought. It was a joint effort because I brought the sides. I grabbed a few chips, put them next to my sandwich and the next thing I saw were all my chips going under the guys car parked next to me. You talk about to much wind...wow!! Fact of Life: After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says W T F.

I took a bunch of pictures so sit back and enjoy.

One of the nice things about being in the car show is being able to walk around before the crowd arrives. And with no crowd to block my view I got pretty close to this awesome FA-18 Hornet which I really looked forward to see fly. Oh well, maybe next year.

I've seen these planes fly before and it's nothing less that spectacular. If you ever get the chance to see and here them, you'll never forget.

Look how big that prop is compared to that small wingspan.

Here's another huge prop that just looks cool.

This guy landed a few minutes before all the wind started and I was able to watch him taxi down the runway. While he was cruising at that low idle, you could here the lope of the camshaft which sounded pretty darn good.
