This is a 67 or 68 Barracuda and was restored like new all the way down to
the red-wall tires. It had a 340 with an automatic in it. This car
brings back some old memories for me because my dad bought a maroon 67
SS with a white strip down the center back while I was in High School. He
only had it a few years and then he sold it for some reason. I remember
it had a 383 with an automatic trans and I use to thrash it on a regular
basis whenever he would give me the keys. After thinking about that
old car my dad had for a minute, I have to share a story about it. When
I was 16 years old, I worked at our local Dairy Queen (which was torn
down some years ago). One of the duties that you did after you took out
all the garbage was to wash down the driveway with water. I wasn't
working that night but I thought I'd stop in and say hi to one of my
buddies before I went home. It was about 10:30 pm and when I drove in,
the driveway was still wet so I did what came natural to a young kid
with power under the hood and burned those tires like I was in the water
box of a Pro Stock car. We both got a kick out if it so I pulled back
around and did it again. For some reason this kind of thing just doesn't
get old to a gear head. After a few times of doing this and removing a few
thousand miles of rubber in the process, I went home.
A few days later my dad confronted me about playing around with his
car, which was a total shock to me because how could he have known.
Turns out that one of the other people that worked that night was
waiting for a ride home and her dad was parked at the end of the
driveway deep in the shadows. And this particular dad just happened to
work with my dad which was news to me as well.
I was busted big time but all I could think about at the time was....
"how the hell did he know"?. Boy does that bring back some memories!
