Treat Machine  1                                                8-2024

My daughter and son-in-law wanted me to help build a few different things for their new game at Open Door Escape Games in Redlands, CA. This new game will be an oversized dog house and be cartoon-like, which is going to be called "Far Fetched". It will feature all kinds of fun things for their guests of any age to figure out and will be very colorful.

This 12" diameter X 4 feet long cardboard tube is a form for pouring concrete into. What my son-in-law is going to have a few of these tubes going from floor to ceiling, which will become part of a snack or treat dispensing machine for a dog. And one of my jobs is to make a couple of boxes that will be attaching to this tube. One box will hold a key pad and the other will be for a bunch of electrical switches. There will be more items to make but I'll get to those later.

I'll be making a wooden box for this key pad to attach to, which in turn will attach to the cardboard tube. The key pad is 3" wide X 5" tall.

The two screw holes for mounting are very close to the electronics, which will be a problem at the bottom because of those wire connections (arrows). My plan is to make some extra room in those two areas.

Working With Wood

I'm using alder for the wood box and here I'm trimming this front face to length.

I used my milling machine to cutout the shape that you see below. The area on either side of the bottom screw has an extra 1/4" of room for the wires now.

Here is a better view of what I'm talking about. Now it's time to make some other pieces for this box.

The pencil line is a six inch radius and I'll be cutting this on the bandsaw. This is the same radius that's on the cardboard tube.

A few minutes later I had them both cut out.

I used my spindle sander to clean up the saw cuts.

I put 1/4" wooden dowels in the pieces with the radius so it will line up with the sides after I glues them. I've had problems with pieces slipping while being glued and clamped so this will prevent that.

Gluing and clamping here.
