New Transmission  40                 April  2012

Here you can see the feed and bleed lines going to the throw out bearing. I wanted easy access to the bleeder line so I clamped it to one of the unused holes on the trans. I also put rubber under the clamp to protect the fittings. Note the rubber being used on the upper clamp as well.

There are a couple of transmission oils that were recommended and I chose the GM Synchromesh fluid for the job. This stuff isn't cheap and you need to use 2 5/8 quarts of fluid. It's thin like automatic trans fluid which makes it easy to work with.

Here you can see I'm using a hand pump to transfer the fluid into the trans. It's a good thing this fluid is thin because the temp in the garage was in the low 40's but this pump made short work of it.

What I'm making here is a hard-stop for the clutch pedal so it won't overtravel. I plan on using that recessed area (blue arrow) to glue in a piece of rubber. The all thread and the recessed piece are both made from stainless steel and the opposite end has 3/8-16" threads.

After digging through all my rubber stuff, I found this piece that was 1/2" thick which should work great. It's not real soft but not supper hard either so I guess you could call it 'goldilocks' because it was just right. I cut a small piece with my hack-saw to make an insert with.

After a few minutes on my belt sander, I have a rubber plug that will be glued in. I plan on using some good epoxy for this so I borrowed a small amount from my work.

Here you can see it resting against the clutch pedal but I don't know exactly where it needs to be adjusted yet. Once I have it running I can find out where it needs to be and then I'll lock it in place. I used a jam-nut to keep it from loosening along with a nut on either side of the all-thread for adjustment.

Next week I'll be making a trim plates for the pedals, doing some wiring, installing both masters and bleeding them and installing the exhaust too. I'll sure be glad to start working on the inside of the car soon because I'm tired of looking at the underside of it.
