Once you have the hose inserted you'll need to slide it forward so the end is right next to the threads. I like to turn the hose while the nut is in the vise for this till I have it at the right depth. If you don't go far enough there's a chance it will leak once you're done so make sure the depth is correct here.
 

 

 

The last step is to insert the barbed fitting (blue) into the hose and nut and then thread them together till you have about .060 of gap between the two. To do this I remove the nut from the vise and clamp on the barbed fitting. Then I grab the hose and nut and push them on the barbed end while turning it at the same time. This can take a few minutes to get the threads started but once you do you screw them together till you have the proper gap. They also recommend using engine oil on the barbed end along with some on the threads which helps with your assembly. For some reason I had trouble with getting the threads started on this end. After about three tries I finally got it.
 

 

 

Here's the new line re-attached and leak free once again. And I'm sure this will last for many years if I keep fuel in it. Remember that braided stainless hose has rubber inside it which goes bad if it gets extremely dry. On the other hand if you were to get the braided steel hose that is Teflon lined then that's a different story.

I thought I'd have more time to work on car parts this week but I had other things that needed to be done, and next week looks to be the same. Although I am making progress with my shifter boot because a friend of mine is lending a helping hand with it. He's made them in the past which is a good thing because I was having trouble.

Look for a car show update in the near future because I've been to a few of them lately and it was sure nice to be able to drive the car again!!
